ANALYSIS OF THE POEM
The poet shares his experience of a railway journey. He
describes the amazing speed of a train. He presents the natural scenes as seen
from the window of a railway carriage.

INFORMAL INTERACTION
The teacher
asks the students to do some simple exercise and then asks some informal
questions and creates a good rapport with them.
ENTRY ACTIVITY
The teacher
creates a mental readiness in students by showing some pictures….
She then
asks a few questions;

you understand after seeing the pictures?
Q: How do
you usually spent your holidays?
Q: How many
of you like to travel?
Q: What are
the different modes used for travelling?
Q: Have you
ever travelled in a train?

scenes have you observed while on a train journey?

The teacher
shows a picture and asks the students to identify the poet.
She then presents a brief introduction of the poet Robert Louis Stevenson
and writes the title and name of the author on the blackboard.

The teacher
recites the poem with proper stress, rhythm and intonation.

VERSION OF THE POEM
The teacher
plays an audio version of the poem with music of a moving train as background
score, which is downloaded from the internet, and asks the students to listen
carefully.
SILENT READING BY
THE STUDENTS
The teacher asks the students to read the poem silently without
moving their lips and without making any audible noise.
GLOSSARY
REFERENCE
The teacher asks the students
to refer to the glossary and find out the meaning of the unfamiliar words.
The teacher provides help whenever necessary.
CLEARING THE
DOUBTS
The teacher asks the students about the doubts that they have not
been able to find solutions to and megaphone these doubts to the class. She
explains the meaning of words with the help of pictures. Additionally, she
explains the doubts contextually and situationally.

ELUCIDATION
The teacher shows a video clip in which the poem
is recited twice and also explains the meaning of each line. After watching
